Download the Microsoft Windows Installer
1 Download the WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe file from the document Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable
Note If you are visiting the download page for the first time, near the top of the page you may see a “Validation Recommended” box. If you see this, click the “Continue” link and follow the prompts to get to the actual download page containing the “Files in this Download” section.

2 Save the file to the Windows desktop. Do not double-click it at this time.

STEP 2
Rename the old Microsoft Windows Installer files
1 Click Start > Run.
2 In the Run line, type the following:
command

3 Click OK.
4 At the command prompt, type the following, and then press Enter after each line:
cd \windows\system32
ren msi.dll msi.old
ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old
ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old
exit

5 Restart the computer.

STEP 3
Reinstall the Microsoft Windows Installer
1 On the desktop, double-click WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe.
2 Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
3 Restart the computer.
