Download the Microsoft Windows Installer
\n1 Download the WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe file from the document Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable
\nNote If you are visiting the download page for the first time, near the top of the page you may see a “Validation Recommended” box. If you see this, click the “Continue” link and follow the prompts to get to the actual download page containing the “Files in this Download” section.<\/p>\n
2 Save the file to the Windows desktop. Do not double-click it at this time.<\/p>\n
STEP 2
\nRename the old Microsoft Windows Installer files
\n1 Click Start > Run.
\n2 In the Run line, type the following:
\ncommand<\/p>\n
3 Click OK.
\n4 At the command prompt, type the following, and then press Enter after each line:
\ncd \\windows\\system32
\nren msi.dll msi.old
\nren msihnd.dll msihnd.old
\nren msiexec.exe msiexec.old
\nexit<\/p>\n
5 Restart the computer.<\/p>\n
STEP 3
\nReinstall the Microsoft Windows Installer
\n1 On the desktop, double-click WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe.
\n2 Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
